Missionary Feature Story of the Month:    7-15-99

Dean and Eleanor Theobald in the Nimo, Papua New Guinea

Dean writes:
Dear awesome friends,
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against
principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of
this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

We have started up a chron teaching in our village. The chron is the
chronological stories through the Old Testament on through to the New
Testament teaching of the life of Christ and his death and
resurrection. It includes the stories about God, who he is, the
    creation of ...

...the angels, the worlds and of Adam and Eve. It goes
through the life of Noah, Abraham and Israel. Vital themes are the
attributes of God, the fall of man and God's judgment and redemption
    of man.

Since starting the chron, we've faced the same warfare that we had
when we taught it at the very beginning. Satan seems determined to
shut it down in whatever way he can. In the last email I mentioned the
clanal feud that shut down the literacy last week. This week on Monday
no one came to the teaching, so I went to the house wondering if the
whole program had ended. But no, the students want to take the Pidgin
English reading course really bad. We are teaching that this time
along with the reading course in their language. They didn't want the
    program to shut down.

So we had a meeting to discuss what the people wanted to do, sharing
that the teaching and school would go for two months and they really
needed to be faithful with it.

Really pray. Pray for us for wisdom. Yesterday I told them that we
wouldn't start unless their wives came to the teaching. Is that the
right thing to do? The men are in the literacy program, so they'll
come so the literacy can carry on and they can take the Pidgin school,
etc. but they leave their wives at home so they don't hear the Bible
teaching and they need it the "worst."
